Need A Break From Work

4 Signs That You Need A Break From Work

When people hear “working from home” they often picture sitting around in their pajamas, easily working on their computers all day. And sure, this is certainly the case for some of us, at least some of the time. But just because you’re working from home doesn’t mean you can’t become stressed out or overworked. Often times we become overwhelmed with our work, and we don’t even realize it. Here are 4 signs that you might need a break from work – see if any of them apply to you.

  1. You’re Exhausted – This is an obvious sign. Do you spend your days exhausted, with little energy to do anything? Are you struggling just to get out of bed some mornings, or to go out with your friends on the weekend? There are plenty of things that could be exhausting you, one of them being your work schedule. Think about how much you’ve been working lately, and see if you need to take a step back for a day or two. Giving yourself some time to recharge might work wonders.
  2. You’re Agitated – When we’re stressed or tired, we start having little patience. We find ourselves lashing out at others, getting annoyed by little things, or becoming frustrated rather easily. When you fry your nerves, it impacts your well-being as a whole, so now is a good time to take a break.
  3. The Quality of Your Work Is Suffering – Another classic sign that you need a break from work is when the quality is slipping. When we’re tired or burnt out, our mind doesn’t focus on the task at hand, and the quality suffers. When you find yourself making mistakes or receiving negative feedback, take a look at your workload to see if that’s the culprit.
  4. You’re Physically Unwell – Finally, sometimes we work ourselves to the point that our bodies begin to suffer. We become tired, achy, or nauseated. Sometimes it’s the result of too much stress, or perhaps we aren’t eating right because we’re too busy working. Whatever the reason, as soon as you suspect your body is starting to suffer because of your workload, that’s when you need a break from work.

Know Your Priorities

Working is important, but not at the expense of your well-being. You need to take care of yourself first and foremost, so don’t be ashamed if you need a break from work. Everyone needs one now and again, and you are no different. So lookout for the classic signs listed above. Once you notice them, force yourself to take a step away for a little while. Also look for ways to manage stress, and find a method that works for you. Your work will thank you for it in the long run, as will your mind and body.
