Marianne Williamson On Why Kids Are Happy

When we’re young, we don’t really think about the consequences of our actions. We try new things, we take risks, we get into trouble. As we get older, we become more cautious. We watch our diets, go to bed at a reasonable time, and try to avoid making big mistakes.

While it’s good that we have grown into responsible adults, we have lost something in the process. We lose our sense of adventure, and our willingness to try something new or fun. This happens to too many adults, and they are miserable because of it.

You don’t see this in kids. For the most part, they are always happy. They are stress free, running around, having fun with their friends. If something new comes into their life, they explore it and try it. They aren’t worried about the future, because they don’t have a list of things in their mind about what could go wrong.

This is what Marianne Williamson is talking about in today’s Wednesday Wisdom. Adults seem to have a file stored in their minds that catalogs all of the things that could go wrong with a certain life choice. Kids don’t have this, and they are happier for it.

The next time something comes into your life, don’t question what could go wrong. Free yourself up to try new things, and to be a kid again. Yes, you likely have responsibilities now that you are an adult. But if there is something you want to do, stop worrying about all of the things that could go wrong, and start imagining all of the ways it could go right. Kids do most of their learning from adults, but in this instance, we could learn something from them.

So take it from Marianne Williamson on why kids are happy – it’s because they don’t have a file in their head describing all of the things that could go wrong.
