Wednesday Wisdom: Seneca on Being Daring

Inspirational Quote from Seneca on Being Daring
“It Is not because things are difficult that we do not dare, it is because we do not dare that things are difficult.” – Seneca

Wednesday Wisdom is a new weekly feature, designed to give you a small boost of motivation during the week. Each week we’ll share with you a quote that will hopefully either motivate you, or at least get you to think differently about something.

Have you ever wanted to do something, but avoided it because you thought it was too difficult? Maybe you wanted to run a 5K, or start a blog, or climb a mountain. Whatever it was, you had the idea in your head, and then all of the obstacles you were likely to face along the way started to creep into your mind. You imagine so many difficulties, that you put yourself off of even attempting your dream, and end up giving up before you even begin.

Don’t Let Possible Difficulties Stop You

Today’s quote from Seneca on being daring tells us that the reason we aren’t trying isn’t because things are difficult. In fact, it’s the other way around. They are difficult because we don’t dare to try.

Too often we make things harder for ourselves by simply not starting. When we wait, we think of more reasons not to do something, or life has a way of interfering. On this Wednesday, listen to Seneca, and try to be a little more daring. You may find that by simply jumping in and getting started, the problem or challenge you’re facing is not nearly as difficult as you thought it would be.

Pick a goal that you’ve had in mind. Maybe one that you put off because you thought it was too difficult. Then find one small way to start. Don’t worry about what comes next, or what obstacles you may have to face. Just start that one small task, and then move onto the next, and then the next. Don’t get in your own way – be daring, and just start.
